This week, W.O.M.A.N., Inc.’s activities have gotten some awesome international coverage! The Express Tribune, a Pakistani newspaper that partners with The International Herald Tribune, has published our staff member Mariya Taher’s article about her Running to End Domestic Violence Quest.
In May 2012, Mariya came up with a daring idea for a fundraising campaign. She decided to run six half marathons in six months, all in different cities in the United States. Overall, she ran 78 miles and raised $4,000, which was matched by the W.O.M.A.N., Inc. Board Chair, Lija McHugh. Read the whole article about Mariya’s adventure here!
The Running to End Domestic Violence Quest may be over, but the idea behind it–combining healthy activities with fundraising and awareness-raising–provided an impetus for the creation of Moving to End Domestic Violence, W.O.M.A.N., Inc.’s wellness group. The group organizes various activities, in which everyone is invited to take part. Our next event is the Doggie Walk in San Francisco’s Mission District on Saturday, March 23 (please read more about it here). And on April 27, the group will participate in SFWAR’s annual Walk Against Rape. You’re welcome to join us!
