W.O.M.A.N., Inc. provides various social media networks for individuals to stay in touch with our agency and the work that we do to help survivors of domestic violence. Our Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Youtube, Linked-In and our WI Blog allows us to connect with individuals across the World Wide Web. To help further our mission to end domestic violence, our social media tools allow the community we serve to keep up to date on what our agency is currently doing, such as partnering with El/la to provide support groups to survivors of domestic violence who identify as TransLatinas, attending trainings to further continue education among advocates working in the domestic violence, as well as information regarding upcoming events or rallies in support of survivors or with the mission to end domestic violence. Through social media, we hope to establish a stronger community presence to further spread awareness of our mission to support all survivors of domestic violence.
Social Media is very important for non-profit organizations such as W.O.M.A.N., Inc. because of how far and wide our agency’s message can be shared. Our agency can share events, pictures, postings with audiences beyond our immediate community and in return, supporters get to know the staff, our volunteers, and the community partners working with us. The presence of social media not only allows us to reach audiences beyond our community, but it also gives us the opportunity to connect with various other organizations, companies and people who will support our cause and can share our messages or information with their own networks.
W.O.M.A.N., Inc.’s Facebook page is a great example of how social media helps in our outreach efforts! Since Facebook is the largest social network in the world, we can share photos, videos, upcoming events, and also share stories of individuals and as well as highlight our programs and services. It is just one way for our supporters to keep in touch. Some of things we post include: domestic violence public policy updates, awareness campaigns, community highlights, tips on supporting survivors, staff highlights/accomplishment, and domestic violence news or relevant information related to the anti-domestic violence movements.
We have already seen great success in our outreach efforts and hope to continue to improve our use of social media as well as to increase the number of supporters we have, supporter who are passionate about advancing the message that abuse of any form cannot be accepted, via our various social media platforms.
