Homicide rates on the decline in the Bay Area

2014 starts promisingly with statistics that show homicide rates going down across the San Francisco Bay Area. San Francisco had 48 homicides last year, as opposed to 69 in 2012; Oakland had 92 homicides, down from 131 in 2012.

The lowered rates are being attributed to overhauls in policing as well as gun suppression and emergency room staff. Authorities also mentioned domestic violence programs as contributing to fewer homicides.
