Tech2Empower USA

Since 2018, Tech2Empower USA has brought together volunteer Advisors from leading companies and social justice leaders representing nearly 100 nonprofit organizations from diverse communities across the United States. Over the 6-week program, the teams dive into projects that help amplify the important work of the nonprofits. This past Fall, the teams were comprised of 21 US nonprofits focused on issues like reproductive justice, immigrant rights, racial justice, combating gender-based violence, women + girls’ empowerment, and more. The program matched the nonprofits with 72 Advisors from over 20 leading companies.

WOMAN, Inc. was chosen to participate in Tech2Empower based on our application submission focused on building a chat line for our website. Over the years we’ve noticed that survivors aren’t only calling the 24 hour support line but they’ve also reached out to us via the website, email, social media – all online sources. Since the initial COVID-19 lockdown the need for creative ways to connect with WOMAN, Inc. became more apparent due to what was safer at the time for the survivor. Given many survivors were living with their abusive partner and were stuck at home due to the lockdown, calling a domestic violence organization became a lot harder because survivors didn’t have the privacy to do so. WOMAN, Inc. staff found ourselves texting with over 115 clients and exchanging over 1100 text messages in addition to the messages we were receiving via email, our website and social media.

We were matched with three knowledgeable Advisors from Microsoft and Doordash that listened to the needs of operating a user-friendly, confidential, and accessible service and they connected us to options that may work for the organization. We’re currently in the process of beta-testing one of these products and hope to have a launching of a chat line in time for the 2022-2023 fiscal year.
